Dent

Dent Railway Station is one of the England’s highest, most remote and atmospheric stations. It is perched high in the Yorkshire Dales and lies several miles from the village of Dent. Surrounded by open moorland and dramatic limestone scenery.

Points of Interest

  • Dent Station is situated in Dentdale and in the days of when the Royal Train would stable in the sidings looking down the dale: now known as Queens view.
  • The railway station opened to freight in 1875, and passengers in 1896 reflects the ambition of Victorian Railway engineering.
  • In 1946 snow fell so hard that it closed the railway for several days. The snow was so deep that men with shovels along with a snow plough made a pathway through.
