We provide something for everyone. All our events are themed with a with an introduction and chance to view artefacts from aerial photos, engineer drawings, navvy stories, photos and more. or a chance to chat with our knowledgeable team. You may even see a steam train passing through.
Theres an individual walk for each event. Our botany introduction follows with identifying the flora at Ingleborough quarry and Gauber pasture towards the longhouse remains or you ay prefer to discover Ribblehead geology, Fossils at the viaduct or The lost village of Thorns.
Our speciality is the shanty site when you safely discovered the perils of the 1870s railway builder. Take the tramways to view the remains of the Victorian railway history ending at Batty Green; its commercial hub.
Several events incorporate an outdoor drama ‘Mischief in the Navvy Hut’ which gives a taste on Navvy family life. This is presented by Settle Graveyard Project who also perform at the church of St Leonards as part of our Navvy Hike with ‘Mystery in the Graveyard’. This year we will have a special memorial service at the church to commemorate the lives of the Navvies and their families who worked played and died for the building of this iconic railway, the viaduct and tunnel at Blae Mo.

To commemorate the 150th year of passenger travel and the 40th anniversary of small stations reopening we have extended our 2026 program to include Armathwaite, Kirby Stephen East and Garsdale which was also Hawes Junction.
New this year are engineering drawings from the Hawes branch Book of Bridges courtesy of the Dales Countryside museum, Hawes.
Take a look at our program and don’t miss out. Small group bookings are welcome. We are unable to take dogs and children on our walks. Suitable clothing and strong boots are essential on our walks.
