Volunteer Awards

You are invited to nominate someone who you believe has made a significant contribution to the work of the Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line. You do not need to be a member of the Friends in order to vote. There are six different categories and you are allowed to nominate one individual in each of the six categories.

The deadline for nominations is 31st October 2026. If we receive a large number of nominations in any category these will be assessed by a panel and a ‘final three’ will be put forward for voting. Considerations by the panel, when selecting the final three, will include: number of times the individual was nominated, best ‘fit’ in the award category as well as the rationale given by the nominators for their choice.

The winners will be announced at our annual dinner in December.

All Aboard

All Aboard Award - Presented for the most friendly, welcoming and positive volunteer. This could be someone providing the best customer service, somebody with the most positive outlook or the biggest smile. They are definitely the volunteer we all love to spend time with.

Staying on Track Award

Staying on Track Award - A ‘behind the scenes’ award presented to a volunteer who helps keep the wheels turning in the background. This might be as part of the infrastructure such as maintenance or station adoption or it could be a board member or team leader without whom things would simply fall off track!

Full Steam Ahead Award

Full Steam Ahead Award – Presented to a volunteer who always goes above and beyond, the most responsive, reliable, helpful, somebody who gets involved in everything and is just wonderful. The first person whose name always comes up when something needs doing!

Firing Up Award

Firing Up Award - An award for a new volunteer this year who is just getting started but who has already had a huge impact.

Branching Out Award

Branching Out Award – An award for a volunteer who has brought new ideas, events or approaches to the line this year to help us move forward or plays more than one role on the line, helping out in different places.

150th Anniversary Special Awards

150th Anniversary Special Awards - recognition of a very special volunteer who you feel really deserves to stand out in this special year. This might be for long service, fabulous attitude, help and support of others or someone else - a very open category to see people really shine.
