The majestic Ribblehead Viaduct is the most impressive structure on the line. The Trust helped fund repairs shortly after the line was saved from closure.
In the 1980’s British Railways (BR) threatened to close the Settle-Carlisle line. One of the reasons given was the need for very expensive repairs to Ribblehead viaduct. BR were persuaded to carry out trial repairs which led to a much lower cost estimate. Repairs were completed in 1992. The Trust and other parties contributed £600,000 towards the £3million total cost.
