Kirkby Stephen

This station marks the transition from Yorkshire Dales into Upper Eden Valley of Cumbria. Situated in the spectacular Mallerstang Valley and Wild Boar Fell. The lovely Cumbrian town of Kirkby Stephen is 2 km away and boast a range of independent shops and can be accessed by using the gated pathway just outside the Railway Station. The station’s remote location was necessitated by the Midland Railway desire to keep gradients on the line to no greater that 1 in 100 for fast running.
