The Visitor Centre and Café was opened in October 2017 after extensive refurbishment.
It is in a unique setting; exposed and isolated but in a beautiful corridor between the three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent, with nature and wilderness all around. After a short walk to the Ribblehead Viaduct drop into the Visitor Centre back at the station where you will find our café open 10-4pm throughout the season from March to the end of October (please check News or Facebook to be sure of the latest opening information). The building also houses an exhibition on the history of the railway telling the stories of why the line was built and the men who built it.
We also explain why the line was threatened with closure and how it was saved so that you can still visit today. You can take a virtual tour of the line with a state of the art computer model featuring aerial photography and lots of extra information and images. Click here to visit ‘Explore More’
The waiting room, once used for church services, and ticket office have been fully restored. In the ticket office you can learn about the man who invented the railway ticket.
Guided walk starting at the Visitor Centre are arranged regularly by FoSCL, please check the events and activities page for more information about these. There are amazing views from the station. Why not sit on one of our benches with a drink in hand and enjoy the view.
